I most recently taught 6th and 7th grade science at Hartford Middle School. Hartford Middle School is located within the Hartford School District in Hartford, Michigan.  Hartford Middle School consists of grades sixth through eighth, and is the only school to attend for students in those grades.  Two hundred and eighty six students attended Hartford Middle School last year (Student count snapshot).

My classes consisted of between 16 and 27 students (Student Count Snapshot).  The makeup of the students are 49% Caucasian and 44% Hispanic (Student Count Snapshot).  Ten percent of students speak a language other than English at home (Student Count Snapshot).  My school is extremely economically disadvantaged with 76% of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch(Student Count Snapshot).  My students come from a variety of backgrounds and abilities.  This requires differentiation in all classes to allow students to learn to the best of their ability.  Science is not a focus at the elementary school, with most of the day being spent on ELA and math.  Each class period for science is 45 minutes.

Within my classroom student access to technology is fairly limited, there is a teacher desktop computer (not to be used by students) and a SMART board connected to a projector.  We have access to three computer labs (1 high school, 2 middle school), however these labs are used for technology classes during portions of the school day, as well as district wide assessments.   I can also request the Educational Technology Specialist to bring in a chromebook cart of 30.
